Jennifer D. Wade Journal

Welcome to my online diary, enjoy your stay!

What's Goin' On?

Somebody better tell me, because I don't know.  At least, I don't know as much as I used to.

See, here's the thing.  I have a new job.  (Weren't expecting THAT on a Monday, were you?)  I'm still working at the same place, it's just that I'm no longer producing a newscast.  About a month ago, I made a move to the assignment desk.  In short, you could say that I tell people where to go!

I'd actually been wanting to stop producing newscasts for a while now.  After almost 20 years of doing it, I was feeling burned out.  Let's see, I'll drag out the calculator and try to guesstimate how many newscasts I produced. (pause for calculation)  I'll guess that, over the years, I've produced somewhere in the neighborhood of 5,000 newscasts.  I think that's enough.

So far, the biggest difference I see between producing a newscast and running the desk is in how much I know about the news of the day.  As a producer, I had to know something about everything.  On the desk, I'm much more concerned with where my crews are than what they're doing.  I find that, now, I only know something about maybe half of the stories we cover.

It's weird, but that's the way it is.
