Stressed Out

I should be watching Lost and Alias right now. But, instead, I'm updating the blog.  Why? Well, while I was at work, my power went out.  I can't say when it went out or for how long it was out, but, I believe it came back on sometime around 5PM.  Problem is, when the power goes out, it erases the clock on the VCR, and the clock doesn't remember where it was when the power comes back on.  So, no clock, no timer, no recording my favorite shows.  Have to wait for the repeats, I guess.

On Monday, I start my tenure on the 5PM newscast.  I'm hoping it will be brief.  The ND hired a new producer, and she starts on Monday.  I'm assuming the ND will move her into the 5 & 5:30, but, if she's really good, I guess he could put her on the 6, and move some other people around.  As long as I'm not doing the 5, fine.

I've started delving into my taxes.  Things are a bit more complicated this year with the house.  I also have to deal with rollovers and things from switching my stuff to a new financial planner.  I have always done my own taxes, but this year, I may at least have to call on TurboTax for some help.  I'm not ready to admit defeat yet.

I Hate When That Happens

Last night, I walked in on someone else's birthday party.

Here's what happened.  Last week, Jill told me that she and her friend Audrey were going to a Jazz club in Scranton on Sunday, and did I want to go.  I said OK.  A couple days later, Jill told me that the Jazz club is not in Scranton, but just outside W-B (I've been there before), and that there would be a table of 6 or 8 people.

Sunday (yesterday) was also a baby shower for Megan, one of the reporters at work.  It was in the afternoon.  Jill and I drove up together, and on the way back, we arranged (I'm 99% sure) to meet at the Jazz club around 7:00 or 7:15.

I arrived at the appointed time and walked in the door, where I was greeted by somebody saying "Are they coming?"  I was like, who?  I don't know.  The said "the birthday boy."  I said I didn't know about any birthday.  I walked further into the club and realized that pretty much everybody there (about 50 people) was waiting for "the birthday boy" to arrive.  I also realized that none of the people waiting for him seemed to be Audrey or Jill!

Well, the birthday boy arrived, and as soon as I could, I made my way back outside and called Jill.  She asked me if I was at the house.  I said, no, I was at the club and where was she?  She said Audrey wasn't going and she didn't feel like going, either.

So, in the end, we met at my house and watched TV.

Kill Bill

Just saw Kill Bill Vol. 2.  I had seen Vol. 1 a few months ago, and watched part of it again, too.  Awesome! Similar storytelling to Pulp Fiction, but with more blood!  And, great music, espec. in Vol. 1 - the music that's playing when Lucy Liu and her crew walk into the restaurant.  I can't think of the name of it off the top of my head - Anger without Purpose" or something like that - (OK, I looked it up.  It's "Battle without Honor or Humanity.  I knew it was something without something) - it's a great track.  Anyway, I give both movies two thumbs up.

In non-movie-related news, the carpet is finally fixed.  The guy came on Monday morning to repair it.

Wait 'til Next Year

OK.  So, the Eagles didn't win the Super Bowl.  They lost 24-21.  But, they probably could have won if McNabb hadn't thrown 3 interceptions.  T.O. looked great, BTW.  If they can keep pretty much the same team together for next season, I think they can be back in the Super Bowl - and win!

Got called in to work early today to do the 7:00.  Toward the end of the shift, the ND called me in to his office to ask about some of the production people.  I think he's testing out my "managing up" skills, but, I still feel like it's ratting out people I have to work with.

He did, however, tell me that he posted the producer opening (wonder how much he had to beg corporate for that!) and that he already has a candidate in mind.  Sooo..I'm hoping that my tenure on the 5:00 won't be as long as first thought.  Two-weeks, maybe a month.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

The Big Game

Well, just a few more hours until the kickoff of Super Bowl XXXIX - Eagles vs. Patriots.  Everybody except Eagles fans seem to be picking the Patriots.  I think the Eagles can win.  But, if they don't, I at least hope the make it a close game and don't get blown out.

It looks as though my schedule at work will be changing again. The 5:00 producer is leaving at the end of this month, and the ND wants me to fill in until a replacement is hired.  He says two-months.  We'll see.

Doing the 5:00 and 5:30 is just about the last thing I want to do.  I'm hoping that I'll get into a routine pretty quickly so it won't seem so intimidating.  When the ND asked me, I didn't put up too much of a fight.  I'm hearing rumors that the EP may not have her contract renewed, so if that happens, I don't want to ruin any chance I might have by coming across as a whiner.

The schedule change means I'll have to find a different time to work out.  I just started going back to the gym this week.  I guess instead of going in the morning, I'll have to go after work.  I think the Y is open til 10:00 most weeknights.

Shape Up!

After a layoff of several months, I finally started going back to the gym this week.  Didn't go today (haircut - walked there), but lifted on Monday and did a little running on Tuesday.  I'm sore, but in a good way.

At work, we have a few teams taking part in a program called "Shape Up PA."  The idea is to lose weight through diet and exercise (duh!).  Hopefully, the program and the pressure of a team will help keep me motivated.

One Tree Hill is back with "fresh" episodes.  There are now two former Guiding Light actors on the show.  One is Joy Lenz.  She used to play Michelle on GL. Now she's married teen music star wannabe Haley on OTH.  The other former GLer is Lindsey McKeon. She used to play Marah on the soap.  Now she's showed up on OTH as Haley's older sister, who, BTW, had sex with Haley's present husband before he met Haley.  As I mentioned in an earlier entry, the show bears practically no resemblance to real life, but it has cool music, pretty people, and it's good to see two actors from my favorite soap doing well.
